The Savage Expanse is a project spawned by my love of the setting of the Rogue Trader 40K RPG, but a dislike of its system.
A system that I do adore is Savage Worlds and its a good a time as any to start this as a new edition has recently dropped. True there have been 40K versions done in the past for Savage Worlds, though I'm intending to make greater use of the Savage Worlds system whilst trying to retain the 'feel' of the 40K setting. Some stuff will be easy as a suitable candidate exists in Savage Worlds already, though others will be trickier requiring a bit of work to ensure a good fit.
Admittedly this will be done in bits and pieces, though gradually over time it will become more organised as stuff gets compiled and tidied up. For the most part I'll be relying on the Rogue Trader RPG and 40K background info in order to figure a basis to work from and then convert to Savage Worlds. Expect irregular updates, this is something being done in my spare time amidst various other projects.
Though as a taster, I'll try to do an iconic weapon of the 40K universe...the Bolt Pistol!
My way of going about this may seem a little weird, but there is method in the madness. First step was to figure out the calibre of the bolt pistol, sources say its 0.75 calibre which works out as roughly 20mm. Theres a 20mm cannon in Savage Worlds which we'll pull the damage from. Range is a bit more difficult, but we can do some maths based upon whats in Rogue Trader and make a good guess from there.
This gives us...
Range: 15/30/60, Damage: 2d12, AP: 4, ROF: 1, Shots: 8, Min Str: d8, Weight: 8
The bolt pistol is also a semi-automatic weapon.
